Pipe
Collars
Can pipe collars be used on metallic pipes?
The melting temperature of such systems is in
excess of the effective sealing range of the intumescent material.
Pyroplex collars are for use on plastic flammable pipes. During a fire
situation the plastic will start to soften, distort and slump, at this
point the intumescent element will start to expand and fill the aperture
and continue to expand until the cavity has been sealed.
What fixings do I need to install
pipe collars?
Depending upon the type of the wall or floor
construction we would recommend that the minimum fixing shall be M8 x
65 sleeve anchor or expanding bolt type. Do not rely upon fixings that
rely upon plastic components for grip, this also applies to chemical
fixings.
Pipe
Wraps
Are pipe wraps suitable for use on
flexible constructions, such as plasterboard partitions?
Pipes passing through plasterboard type
constructions are not necessarily fully lined and therefore will not
offer the intumescent material a solid base to contain the expanding
intumescent during a fire situation. In such cases Pyroplex recommends
the use of its 400 series collars.
PU
Foam
I have used the Pyroplex fire rated
foam to seal around cavity around a door, do I need treat the foam with
any additional coatings to reinstate its fire resistance?.
The system has been tested without any additional
surface treatments to demonstrate its fire resistance performance.
However, if the material is exposed to environmental conditions (such as
ultra violet radiation) we would suggest that the material be capped
with a mortar or other building material.
Intumescent
Acrylic and FR Sealants
In what application are these
products suitable for?
Intumescent Acrylic and Fire Rated Silicone can
be used for sealing joints and gaps etc. Fire Rated Silicone can be
used internally and externally, whereas intumescent acrylic can only be
used internal. Both materials have different movement accommodations,
see appropriate section for use and guidance.
Specialist
Extrusions
We have identified a product within
the specialist extrusions, which we would like to use, can minor
modifications be made to the dimension?
The specialist range of extrusions is promoted in
our literature to demonstrate our extrusion capabilities and diversity
in terms of materials used. Some of the products displayed are for
customer specific applications and therefore, no modifications can be
made. We would recommend that you discuss your requirements directly
with Pyroplex to enable us to produce an extrusion to meet your neeeds.
Intumescent
Strip
What self-adhesive system is used on
this type of product and will it stick to steel frames?
The self-adhesive tape used on this product range
is a high performance self-adhesive backing for ease of application and
installation. The system is a modified acrylic, with a double-sided
system with a high coat weight of adhesive. Prior to the application of
the product application the substrate must be cleaned to ensure that
all oils, dust and other surface contaminates are removed. For specific
information regarding the self-adhesive please contact Pyroplex technical.
Air
Transfer Grille System
Is the system suitable for
ventilation ducts?
At present we have no specific test evidence to
demonstrate that the product is suitable for this particular
application. The test evidence at present relates to timber doorsets
for 30 and 60 minutes fire resistance. Our assessment report permits
the use of this product in compartment walls for 30 and 60 minutes fire
resistance.
Glazing
Systems
Is 300494 available in colours other
than black?
The product can be manufactured in other colours,
such as brown, white, red, grey and cream subject to a minimum order
quantity.
Can the glazing system be used on
timber screens?
At present we have no primary test evidence to
demonstrate its performance in terms of screens. However, recent tests
conducted small-scale show no loss in performance when carried out at
small scale using non-insulating glass, further tests are planned for
2006-2007.
Rigid
Box Seals
How does the intumescent seal
provide 30minutes fire resistance?
The active element of the system when heated
>180°C starts to expand and continues to expand as the
temperatures increases, effectively creating a fire stopping barrier to
restrict hot gases and flame for the period of fire resistance.
Are you seals tested?
The Pyroplex range of seals have been tested to
the requirements of BS476: Part 20/22:1987 for periods of 30 and
60 minutes fire resistance. Test reports are available upon request.
